Feature Friday- Get to Know Kathleen Newhouse, PT, DPT of Poplar Grove Physical Therapy

Kathleen Newhouse, PT, DPTThis week we are happy to feature Kathleen Newhouse, PT, DPT our clinic director and staff therapist of Poplar Grove Physical Therapy.  We sat down this week with Kathleen to learn a little more about her.

Tell everyone a little bit about yourself.

I reside in Belvidere, Illinois with my husband, Phil, of two and half years.  Outside of college, I have lived in Boone County my entire life; I was born and raised in Caledonia, Illinois.

I graduated from Marquette University in 2006 with a Bachelors degree in both Human Biology and Spanish and in 2008 completed my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

In my free time I enjoy traveling, exercising and playing recreational volleyball.

What inspires you to do what you do?

I am inspired by the dedication that my patients show inside and outside of the clinic to overcome physical hurdles to return to living a life that they love.

What is the best part of your job as a physical therapist?  What is the most difficult part?

I find great satisfaction in being able to help my patients return to participating in the activities they love to do.

The worst part is the paperwork.

Do you have any upcoming personal or professional milestones?

Yes, professional.  This June our organization will be celebrating the five year anniversary of the opening of Poplar Grove Physical Therapy.  I have been at Poplar Grove Physical Therapy since we opened our doors in 2010.

I have found great joy in being a part of Poplar Grove's healthcare community and being able to offer physical therapy services to the area in which I was born and raised.

What was your first job?

I worked for my dad one summer doing odd jobs around the house such as painting, working in the garden and fixing window screens.  My schedule was Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until noon.  If I wasn't in the kitchen by 8:00 a.m. sharp my dad would dock my pay.

What is something people are surprised to learn about you?

I love skydiving.

If you could take 2 weeks off from all of your responsibilities, where would you go and what would you do?

I would really like to travel to Australia and snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef, hike, see some koalas and visit as many beaches as possible.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Don't doubt yourself.
