Feature Friday- Get to Know Tim Seppelt, PT, DPT, Cert. SMT, Cert. DN of Belvidere Physical Therapy

Tim Seppelt, PT, DPT, Cert. SMT., Cert. DNThis week we are happy to feature physical therapist, Tim Seppelt, PT, DPT, Cert. SMT, Cert. DN of our Belvidere Physical Therapy clinic.  We sat down with Tim this week to learn a little more about him.

Tell everyone a little bit about yourself.

I am a 2008 graduate of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science where I received my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.  I have experience in orthopedics includes post-surgical care, sports injuries, work-related injuries, and geriatric rehabilitation.

What inspires you to do what you do?

I enjoy seeing patients return to their previous level of health after an injury or surgery. To look back on the rehabilitation process and know that I played a role in restoring a patient’s quality of life is very gratifying. I feel honored to be a part of their journey back to full health.

Do you have any upcoming personal or professional milestones?

In the last three years, I have completed certifications in Spinal Manipulative Therapy and Dry Needling through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. The American Academy of Manipulative Therapy recently completed the credentialing process through the APTA and now offers a fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy.  I am strongly considering the fellowship to further develop my manual physical therapy skills and distinguish myself as a fellow in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy.

Do you belong to any groups or organizations?

I am a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and Illinois Physical Therapy Association.  I would encourage all physical therapists to become members and attend local IPTA district meetings.  As the healthcare system continues to change and our scope of practice is being challenged by other professions, the importance of voicing your opinion and supporting leadership that will represent our profession can not be understated.

What do you enjoy to do in your freetime?

I enjoy lifting weights at a local gym. Over the past year, I have been learning and practicing the techniques of Olympic lifting such as squats and deadlifts. I have seen an increase in power and strength overall by incorporating these lifts into my workout routine. I hope to parlay my joy of working out into personal training, once I complete the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification.

Do you have a favorite place to visit in the Rock River Valley?

I enjoy all the outdoor activities that Rock Cut State Park has to offer, especially mountain biking. The park contains some of the best single tracks available in Northern Illinois. The trail system provides different options depending on your skill level and is a great way to explore the park.
