Marengo Physical Therapy Clinician Diane Parrish, PT, DPT Completes Hand Course

Diane Parrish, PT, DPTMarengo Physical Therapy therapist, Diane Parrish, PT, DPT attended the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee’s Wisconsin Hand Experience- Caring for the Painful Thumb Course.

The course largely focused on the most recent research on the evaluation and treatment of the wrist, hand, thumb and shoulder. At the course, Diane learned about wrist ligament injuries; testing and treatment for various shoulder problems such as frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, and bicep tendon issues; persistant hand edema treatment, and the evaluation and treatment of a painful thumb. The course included observing a surgery to save hand function with severe arthritis in the wrist.

The course also included an intensive portion on thumb pain and injuries.  Presentations covered thumb function research, conservative treatment using specific exercises, mobilizations, and splinting to improve thumb balance and motion.

After attending this course, Diane has an updated understanding on the treatment of certain conditions of the thumb and wrist, using the most updated techniques that can be applied in the clinic when treating upper extremity injuries of her patients.
